Subject: Kent Active Travel
Good Afternoon
Late last year we consulted on the concept of five walking and cycling improvement schemes across Kent as we received funding from the Department for Transport. These Active Travel schemes seek to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of local people, as well as support the local economy. They aim to encourage and enable active travel, which means walking or cycling as a means of transport rather than for leisure, making active travel an attractive and realistic choice for short journeys.
Feedback from our first consultation has been used to help shape the proposals being presented in this consultation. We want to continue to understand and incorporate the views of local communities, as this feedback is essential in helping shape how the scheme is progressed.
We are now launching a second round of consultation on the following schemes:
- Canterbury: Littlebourne Road to the City Centre
- Folkestone: Folkestone Central to Cheriton
- Thanet: Birchington to Margate Sands
- Gravesham: Gravesend to Northfleet
Full details of the schemes can be found in the consultation brochure on the webpage: www.kent.gov.uk/kentactivetravel
More information is also available on the fifth scheme in this package ‘Folkestone: Hythe to Dymchurch’. This scheme, a cycle route from Hythe to Dymchurch, received a high level of support in the early consultation. It does not require any further detailed design so will go ahead as previously proposed
If you have any further queries regarding this consultation please email traffic.schemes or call 03000 41 81 81 using the reference ‘Kent Active Travel Consultation’ or the specific scheme name, to identify the project.
