After a few weeks away from Betteshanger CP, we returned back there for the latest Wednesday evening time trial. The weather was not the usual mix of wind, rain and cold, but sunny with warm temperatures and fairly light winds. In spite of the good conditions, a relatively small fields of 42 riders signed on, with just 4 juniors amongst this number.
Fastest of the juniors was Lance Childs with 24.05, and Chris Fennell was top senior rider with 19.56, beating brother Nic into second place (21.00). It was good to see Jon Parker back on a bike after his skiing accident. His injuries mean he is currently unable to get into a time trial position, so he rode his road bike to a fine third place with 21.47. Terry Fearn gave his trike an outing and ended up with 37.50. Riders times can be found in the attached PDF documents.
Unfortunately, Eddie Brown had an accident where he clipped the kerb at the edge of the track just after the hairpin and came down heavily on his side. He didn’t break any bones but did lose a bit of skin and it looked rather painful! Thanks go to Pete Huckstep and Martin Hendy for attending to Eddie and his wounds, and to the BCP ranger who attended with a first aid kit to help. David Robert took over Pete’s marshal position while he looked after Eddie.
Other helpers for this event were Sue Shields, John Beggs, Nicola Goodban, Teresa Childs, Chris Redmond, Andy McCall and Dave Mastin.
The time trial on 31/05/17 is over 25 miles, with signing on closing at 6pm for a 6:15pm start. We will be starting some riders from 6pm, so if you would like, or need an early start, please sign on promptly so that you can get to the start on the top loop in good time.
