It was nice to get some better weather at Betteshanger CP for this week’s evening time trial. The sun came out and the wind from the south west was not too bad but still quite fresh. Times were not quite as good as expected, the wind having some effect no doubt.
A total of 32 riders signed on, but there would have been more. There was an accident on the dual carriageway between the old power station and the first Pfizer roundabout, which delayed some riders, while several others turned round and headed back home.
There were 7 juniors in total, but sadly only 5 finished. Millie Dack and Ferne Peirce collided with each other early on and couldn’t continue. Thanks go to Lyndon Dunsbee (Deal Tri) who stopped to assist before continuing. I believe that both girls are not too badly injured, and that Millie has since been back to BCP to do a ride to restore her confidence. Fastest junior was Lance Childs with 24.31, and quickest girl was Freya Cook in 31.55, just 2 seconds in front of Tallulah Butcher. A special mention must go to 9 year old Ryan Jackson who came all the way from Romford and ended up with a very respectable time of 27.37.
The quickest of the 25 senior riders was Jason McGowan (St. Austell Wheelers), who recorded 21.20, with second claim member Dan Martin (Bath Uni CC) 7 seconds further back. Sam Bradford was the first of the first claim club members in third place with 22.16. Nicola Goodban was the first woman rider with a fine 25.09. All times can be found in the attached PDF files.
Thanks as always go to our volunteers who helped with the running of the event. This week they were Teresa Childs, Abby Langley, Phil Cook, Terry Fearn, Pete Huckstep, Andy McCall and Dave Mastin.
Next week, we have the usual 10 mile time trial on Wednesday 23rd August, while on Friday 25th August, we have the one hour time trial. Both events start at 18:30, with signing on closing at 18:15.
