Sunday saw the running of the KCA 12 hour event based at Bethersden Village hall.
Many of us were up bright and early to experience the return of fog for the first time for many months resulting in the start being delayed for 30 minutes.
The 56 riders brave enough to take on the event started at 06.00 following the delay
TRC had 3 riders: Richard Hull, Rob Milnes and Malcolm Adams (SC)
We also had a good turnout of marshals so thanks to all those how volunteered.
Feedback was that it was a tough day despite the favourable conditions on the course made up predominantly of laps around Rye, Camber, Lydd and Brenzett.
A very well done to our riders who all finished.
Richard commented that he thought Rob was going much better than him
Rob said ‘…very tough!’ a man of few words
Malcolm said ‘ Had to pedal all the way, unlike previous 12s when I always had a bit of a respite with quite a fair amount of down hill. It was tough on the first part of Camber. Still I grovelled to the finishing circuit and after a lap of ‘recovery’ (was smashed really) I picked it up for the final 20 miles and I think I ran out at approximately 190 miles. I passed the 1st time keeper at 188.630 miles with about six minutes to go
I must be honest if I had not been riding for charity I think I might have climbed off after 4 hours. I don’t know what I have raised for Demelza but it stands at a little under £800 at the moment’
Not bad at 75!
My interpretation of provisional distance results:
Richard Hull 202.917
Rob Milnes 208.917
Malcolm Adams (De Laune) (SC) 188.630
Other ‘locals’
Shay Giles (VC Elan) 249.736
Jeremy Saynor (VC Deal) 210.05
Event winner Pav Bryan (Rye & District Wheelers) 267 miles
Well done to all the riders, Esther Carpenter and her band of organisers
