This year’s National 50mile championship was run on the A30/50 in Leicestershire, which runs on the A46 from Seagate to Newark on Trent and then back. The road flowed mostly down hill on the outward leg and dragged back up on the return. With the turn at 25.5miles. The road surface was smooth with about 2 miles of concrete surface on the outbound and return legs.
The conditions were chilly between 10-15C and the wind which was around 10mph from South west, which made for an very fast outbound leg and a slow return leg back up hill. The event was held and well run by Leicester Forest CC.
TRC only had one rider at the event Nic Fennell, with a single second claim member also riding. All the club members returned with new Personal Bests and good positions overall.
Nic found he had set new personal best times for 10mile through to 30miles on the outbound leg (shame they don’t count!) hitting the turn in just 46minutes averaging 33mph! But was confronted with the wall of wind for the return 24.5miles.
Finish times:
Nic Fennell – 1:43:24 – 15th – PB
Chris Fennell (second claim) – 1:40:18 – 6th – PB
The event was won by Pro rider Marcin Bialoblocki with a time of 1:33:38. 2nd place was Chris Bartery with time of 1:37:18
3rd place was Adam Duggleby with a time of 1:38:31
Other local riders included:
Neil Lauder (PMR) – 1:46:00 – 20th
The Women’s event held just before the Men’s, saw local rider Emma Lewis (The Independent Pedaler) finish 2nd in a time of 1:50:59
