For the first time in the clubs history Thanet RC competed at the south east track team championships held at Herne Hill today. The competition was very high attracting the best of the south east track riders and was run in a omnium format with team riders taking part in the different event. Chris Childs was up first with the sprint initially gaining a qualifying with a 200m TT time of 14 secs. Next Dan Martin performed well in the 3km pursuit with a time of 3mins 45 secs. Ollie Robinson and Rob Milnes represented team Thanet in the 15 lap scratch race with Ollie 10th and Rob 15th. Dan and Chris then raced in the Kieran behind the derny bike and made the minor finals. Race 5 was the team devil with Thanet 7th with Rob and Ollie beating teams like Dulwich Paragon, London Phoenix, Medway Velo and Black line track team. Finally the boys all teamed up for the Team pursuit recording 4 mins 52 secs in the 4km event. Thanet RC finished 11th but learnt a lot from the day and riders and supporters all enjoyed the fun, friendly day and were robbed of the best supported team (case of beer prize) by Dulwich Paragon. Well done and great to see track racing taking off in Thanet. Also well done to Adalta women’s team of Emma, Sophia and Jo for taking 2nd place overall. Teresa Childs is organising a club track session at Herne Hill on Sunday 9th August if interested contact Teresa.
