The latest evening time trial at Betteshanger was in fact two events over two different distances. They included the regular 10 mile event, but we also ran a 25 mile time trial as well. This latter event served as as warm up / come and try it event for those riders who have entered the forthcoming KCA 25 mile time trial to be held at the park on 16th July.
It was a very breezy but dry set of conditions for the riders who signed on. Eight riders took part in the 10 mile time trial, while seven riders started the longer distance event.
Regarding the 10 mile event, the fastest rider was Lance Childs (TAAP Endura) in 20.44, beating Sam Hodge into second place by just 16 seconds. Once again, Faye Faiers was the fastest female rider in a time of 27.09.
The field of 7 riders for the 25 mile event included 5 juniors, 4 of whom have enter the 25 mentioned above. Junior rider Seb Mugford of VC Deal had a ride he will probably like to forget. He punctured his front tyre on the first lap and raced back to the car park to get a spare wheel. However, after a couple of laps, Seb retired as he found the spare wheel was catching the wind and he decided to stop as he didn’t feel safe on the bike. Only one rider got inside the hour, Simon Henderson with 59.08. However, there were some very good rides from our four remaining juniors in difficult conditions. I believe that they all exceeded their expectations which will give them confidence for the 25 on Sunday. They certainly seemed pleased, judging by their reactions after the finish.
The table shows the times of all riders over both distances.
The helpers this week were Jenny & Terry Fearn, Caroline Rigby, Michael Friend, Andy McCall and Dave Mastin.
