It is often said that hill climbs are a young person’s pursuit, and so it proved to be at this year’s club hill climb.  As usual in recent year’s, the riders tackled Bay Hill at St. Margaret’s Bay from the beach to finish at the top, opposite the Spirit of St Margaret’s monument.  The weather was dry, but breezy and cool for the field of 4 riders.

We had three juniors and one senior rider take on the hill, with the combined age of the riders less than that of one of our helpers!  In spite of a small field, the event determined where three of the club’s hill climb trophies will be going.

Fastest up the hill was 15 year old Dougie Tulett in an excellent time of 2m 33.3s, while in second place was Abbie Hoss.  Abbie only came down to help out, but she was persuaded to take part as we pointed out that she would still have to ride back up the hill to go home!  Abbie’s time was 4m 16.4s. In third place was junior Alice Tulett who rode well to record a time of 4m 27.0s, while our other junior girl, Nina Reid, also put in a fine effort for a time of 4m 46.6s.

Thanks go to all our helpers who turned out to ensure the event went off safely.  They were Caroline Rigby, David Tulett, Paul Reid, Roger Dewen, George Chittenden, Michael Friend and Dave Mastin.
